This chapter discusses some of the distinctive features of Montesquieu's general oeuvre, including only a few salient points. It pinpoints some particularly instructive passages of his Persian Letters that illustrate his talent as a thoughtful and critical comparativist. The last part of the discussion highlights aspects that are viewed as demonstrative of Montesquieu's continuing relevance, especially the importance of the Persian Letters as a timely classic in the contemporary context.
