It is important to note that the best education results not only from the best schools or from the best teachers, as this may also be affected by self-cultivation—a self-discipline that involves how learning is encouraged regardless of the learning environment. This feature is often overlooked, especially in terms of public school problems. Education may play no small part in developing disciplined and self-cultivating citizens, as this would aid in clarifying his or her contributions to culture. In this chapter, light is shed on understanding the purpose of education for various cultures and how this may have undergone various changes over time in various aspects. The chapter emphasizes the need to identify the purpose of education, as wisdom is said to lead to survival.
