(p.159) Chapter 10 Final Crusade
Homer Lea

Jeff Mielke

University Press of Kentucky

Lea's growing reputation as a military strategist led him to be the advisor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his revolutionary movement. As time flew by, he came close to the realization of his dreams. However, his health ultimately gave out and led to his untimely death. Lea's inflated status as a military authority came from the influence of The Valor of Ignorance in American military circles. His determination to bring about the salvation of Western civilization convinced him to redouble his efforts and write another book. Despite everything, his attention was drawn back to Chinese revolutionary affairs. Though dangerous to his health, he still pursued his military ambitions. After a relatively short life, Homer Lea died gambling his health for his ambitions.
