The three goals of the Peace Corps illustrated in Chapter 6 reveal three different ways of making a difference to the countries in which the volunteers have done service. In assessing the impact that the volunteers initiated through their jobs, it is also important to assess how they affected other countries as Americans. Lastly, it is also important to evaluate how their experiences could bring about significant effects in the United States, particularly in Kentucky. In terms of providing technical assistance which accounts for the first goal, the report Twenty Years of Peace Corps includes studies that document success in terms of tuberculosis control, smallpox eradication, and educational television in various countries. In terms of the second goal, or providing a better understanding of Americans, the report revealed that American ambassadors recognized how the Peace Corps proceeded with a sensitive approach in approaching foreign relations. This chapter provides some insights about how the job and the volunteers have made impacts on the host countries.
