In chapter 21 Negri is befriended by the very wealthy Margaret West, and the two quickly become inseparable. Despite rumors that they were romantically involved, there is a true friendship between the women. Negri is finally able to relax and again live the kind of life she had during her famous youth. After several years spent collecting art, throwing parties, and saying goodbye to her last companion, Negri becomes pensive and reflective, regretting many decisions made in the last years of her career. She is approached by Disney to come out of retirement and play a character tailored specifically for her—a bejeweled, intelligent, luxury-loving woman with a decadent lifestyle. Her role in The Moon Spinners constitutes the ultimate career ending for a star of this magnitude.
