The research for this book included looking through volumes of collected media guides, programs, letters, and scorecards of games that Claude Sullivan had collected beginning in 1948 (still privately held by the Sullivan family) and listening to recordings made of his broadcasts and other radio programs. The Claude Sullivan Collection has been in the University of Kentucky Archives since 1978, when Alyce Sullivan donated 254 tapes made of Claude's sportscasts and additional recordings of his early broadcasts of UK sports events. An additional one hundred plus recordings, including some records that preceded magnetic tapes, were discovered in 1998, when Alyce moved out of the house that David and Alan had grown up in, and put into the collection. Forty-three transcription disks made by WHAS were transcribed in 2008 and added. Also in 2008, Alan used money from Alyce's estate to begin digitizing all the recordings that made up the “final” Claude Sullivan Collection, (p.272) which took several years to do. When that was completed, UK had the “event” to honor both the Claude Sullivan Collection and the UK Digital Archives (or what is now called the Kentucky Digital Library), including the Big Blue Sports Archives. But then one more collection of tapes made overseas was found, donated by the Sullivans, and digitized—completing what the family knows of Claude's recordings to this point.

In 1970, Cecil Jones produced the vinyl album Great Moments in UK Basketball for the university's Committee of 101. For this album, Adolph Rupp was interviewed by Cawood Ledford, and the Sullivan family allowed recorded interviews of Claude to be used. A digitized version of it is in the collection.

Claude Sullivan contributed to three University of Kentucky publicity/fact books in the early to mid-1950s for director Ken Kuhn that are quoted in this manuscript. Those articles were used as the introduction to a particular University of Kentucky season and were not originally credited to Claude. Claude's original typed articles for those publications are in the Claude Sullivan personal collection—consisting of letters, fact books, memorabilia, photos, and various other materials. Claude also contributed to several articles in Wah Wah Jones's production TV in the Bluegrass in the mid-to late 1950s and early 1960s.
