Lincoln before “Lincoln” examines the most popular and arguably influential twentieth-century film and television representations of Abraham Lincoln. Although Stephen Spielberg’s epic film Lincoln (2012) is likely to be remembered as Hollywood’s definitive portrait of America’s greatest president, it is but one of many fascinating cinematic representations.
