War Has Its Compensations
This chapter discusses Watterson's standings during the Spanish-American War. He initially called for disregarding all of the old issues in order to dominate the “new issues and new men”, and even abandoned his long-standing misgivings about adventurism abroad after he realized what was at stake. It is also stated that Watterson welcomed this particular war but advised caution.
