Framing Our Choices

Framing Our Choices

(p.70) 4 Framing Our Choices
Agrarianism and the Good Society

Eric T. Freyfogle

University Press of Kentucky

This chapter examines the flaws in the three prevailing dichotomies that dominate the discussions on land-use choices. Aside from being too simplistic and incomplete, these dichotomies can be misleading so much so that even the way land-use choices are framed becomes questionable. This chapter proposes seven alternative dichotomies that, when used together, could provide much needed clarity and complexity of where things stand in terms of nature and American culture while shedding light on the paths ahead.

Keywords:   land-use choices, land-related dichotomies, conservation, nature, American culture
