Hollywood did not appear to like television and seemed to believe that it was only going to be a fad. Although the Founding Moguls came to a consensus that they would not allow their products to be shown on the tube, Warner Bros., Fox, Columbia, and MGM sold their libraries prior to 1948 to television pioneers which initially were working with independent companies such as Monogram and Republic. Also, some of the major players in the industry were able to establish in-house TV production as well as syndication arms. The resistance to such efforts initiated from agents that seemed to resent the lowered fees and the apparent stigmatization of actors on TV. This chapter looks into the beginnings of CBS Television City which served as a facility built for television.
