The modern AA Highway, or State Road 9, intersects US 68 here. New, highway oriented businesses have colonized lots along both highways and a new, low density business district is emerging. Commercial and retail businesses prefer business locations with the highest accessibility and visibility leading to high land values major highway intersections. Gas stations, drive in banks, and a shopping center occupy the peak value lots. The state's first macadam turnpike opened to traffic here in 1830, connecting Maysville and Washington. A nineteenth-century tavern and stagecoach stop still stand at the top of the bluff above the Ohio River on the old road.
