George hears about Morris Birkbeck's colonization scheme in Southern Illinois. Abbey and Charles Dilke favor George's emigration, the former for business and the latter for political reasons. George and Georgiana wed. The couple take stage to Liverpool in the company of John Keats and Charles Brown. John and Brown depart on Scottish walking tour. They book passage on The Telegraph and set sail for Philadelphia. After arrival in America, they head overland to Pittsburgh, then down the Ohio River to Henderson, Kentucky. George likely visits Wanborough and decides not to settle there, returning to Henderson. A spate of letter-writing with John ensues.
