John Gilbert's first year at MGM (1924), starring in such hits as He Who Gets Slapped (with Lon Chaney), His Hour, The Snob (with Norma Shearer, who became a lifelong friend). Bacground on MGM, Louis B. Mayer, Irving Thalberg, and Gilbert's costars and competition at the studio. His marriage to Leatrice Joy ends in 1924.
