John Gilbert has his two first big hits, the World War drama The Big Parade and Erich von Stroheim's The Merry Widow (both 1925), rocketing him to stardom. At the top of the heap, he costars with Lillian Gish in La Boheme. He buys a movie-star mansion on Tower Grove Drive, in which he will live for the rest of his life.
