Hitler's Generals in America

Derek R. Mallett

University Press of Kentucky

Chapter 4 examines the abortive American re-education program for German generals at Camp Dermott, Arkansas. The chapter contrasts this failure with the successful use of Camp Ruston, Louisiana, as a home for anti-Nazi general officers. It also chronicles the changes that continued to occur at Camp Clinton. The chapter demonstrates that despite increasing American independence from the British model of treatment for general officer prisoners, American procedure was still haphazard at best and lacking in real overarching direction.
