This chapter discusses the aftermath of Ann’s divorce from Leslie Fenton after twelve years of marriage and her decision to focus on her freelance career. Included are descriptions of films she made at various studios while freelancing, such as The Long Night starring Henry Fonda and directed by Anatole Litvak for the independent Select Films (and distributed by RKO) and The Walls of Jericho for 20th Century-Fox. The chapter also covers the ups and downs of her early courtship with dancer Igor Dega and their eventual marriage.
