This chapter details the media reaction to Dvorak’s “overnight” success by branding her “Hollywood’s New Cinderella.” Also discussed is her introduction to Warner Bros. via Howard Hawks for the James Cagney film The Crowd Roars, which caused the studio to become infatuated with the young actress. This chapter also examines Dvorak’s early films with Warner Bros., including The Strange Love of Molly Louvain, in which Ann begins an intense relationship with costar Leslie Fenton.
