Trumbo became increasingly active politically, notably in opposition to US involvement in the war in Europe, and he came to the attention of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, he became an active supporter of the war. He also signed a lucrative contract with MGM and wrote three highly regarded films for the studio: A Guy Named Joe, Thirty Seconds over Tokyo, and Our Vines Have Tender Grapes. He also wrote Tender Comrades for RKO.
