The chapter explores Walters’ role as prolific stager of musical sequences at M-G-M and discusses the studio’s insistence for lengthy rehearsal periods. In Broadway Rhythm he creates showcases for Lena Horne and Nancy Walker. Walters’ growing awareness of camera work and editing is explored. His dances are examined for their adherence to plot and character development. Also discussed in this chapter is his growing studio loyalty and un-credited work. This chapter contains detailed accounts of the making and reception of two films credited to new director Vincente Minnelli, Meet Me in St. Louis and Ziegfeld Follies of 1946.
