The author recounts, in first person, why he believes the subject merits coverage and further study. He also tells how he originally came into contact with Sidney J. Furie and how the book came to fruition. The author states that Furie’s impact has existed not so much with film scholars and academics as with filmmakers. Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, and Quentin Tarantino have all acknowledged Furie’s influence on their own work.
