James Still

Carol Boggess

University Press of Kentucky

This final chapter explores the personal daily life of James Still in his last years. As he entered his nineties, Still withdrew from the public life that he had known and enjoyed in the 1970s and 80s. He lived on Settlement School property where he was cared for by friends and staff members. He enjoyed the hospitality and attention of Mike and Frieda Mullins, Bill and Lois Weinberg, Molly and Vernon Bundy. He created an official bond of closeness with Teresa Perry Bradley (Teresa Reynolds) and her family when he adopted her in 1998. At the end of April 2001, James Still died quietly at the hospital in Hazard, Kentucky.
