Günther Kronenbitter examines the fraught relationship of Austria-Hungary and Germany during World War I. Tensions and rivalries among the allies’ leadership impacted strategic planning and military cooperation. The chapter concludes that although the alliance faced challenges, misunderstandings, rivalries, and resentment weighed little in comparison to the strategic structural conditions of the coalition war.
