Jack’s love affair with Dolores is starting to break under the strain of his drinking. Ongoing tensions within the Costello household erupt when Maurice demands that Dolores break it off with Jack and she refuses. Maurice moves out, then files for divorce. Papers are served as the Costello women leave for New York to attend the opening of Dolores’s new picture, Old San Francisco. Helene keeps her spur of the moment marriage to childhood friend Jack Regan secret until the sea voyage home. The pair are married a second time in Hollywood with her mother and sister’s blessing, but a disastrous wedding night leads to their separation only a short time later.
